G9 Defense

Founded by Joshua Mahnke, while we are first and foremost, an intellectual property company, G9 Defense is a company that specializes in designing and manufacturing high-quality ammunition for defense purposes. Our expertise lies in our ability to design projectiles in solid copper and brass, and load into ammunition at our North Idaho factory.

It all began when Joshua was put in charge of a church security team during a time of crisis. Members of the team had a colorful variety of equipment, particularly ammunition. In response, Joshua sought out law enforcement data and spoke with acclaimed firearm experts to find the best suited defense ammunition for highly crowded environments. After digging through years of after-action reports, Joshua concluded that each type of common projectile had major shortcomings.

Determined to find a better solution, Joshua set out to design his own projectiles using solid copper and brass. In the early stages, he even mounted his projectile designs onto arrows so he could safely test them with a compound bow in his backyard. Even in those early days, it was clear a new paradigm in small arms ballistics was on the horizon.

Through tireless research and development, Joshua's passion for creating the best possible ammunition quickly grew into a full-time pursuit. He unraveled a ballistic thread that resulted in over 51 patented shapes in projectile design alone. Today, G9 Defense stands as a leader in the ammunition industry, with innovative technology that is changing the game when it comes to what one should expect in ballistic performance.

The name G9 is a nod to the G scale used to predict parabolic curve trajectory of a bullet in flight. Best known are the G1 and G7 ballistic coefficients (BC). G9 bullets fly differently because they are lower density but have high ballistic coefficients and the highest muzzle velocities. The muzzle velocity is largely due to our patented shapes reducing friction in the barrel. These characteristics would require a different G scale to be more predictive.
